the forest in april

Featured work: The Forest in April (2021) / Rimpelingen (2017)
Performed by: Maya Fridman (cello), North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra
Conducted by: Nicolò Foron (The Forest in April) and Sander Teepen (Rimpelingen)
Recorded by: TRPTK, Catalogue number TTK 0076

Press: "De Graaff’s biggest strength hides in a paradox: thrilling idleness. Hear how majestic his Aprillian Forest awakens, with bows to Mahler ('Wie ein Naturlaut") and Messiaen ("Twittering birds"). When Maya even starts to sing she honors her reputation as Cello Priestess."

THE COLLECTORS

Featured work: The Bell's of St. Clement's (2018)
Performed by:
Konstantyn Napolov & Eke Simons
Recorded by: TRPTK, Catalogue number TTK 0027

Press: "A clear example on this disc would be "The Bells of St. Clement's" by the young and very productive composer Jan-Peter de Graaff. The piece is based on the English Nursery Rhyme "Oranges and Lemons", which plays a significant part in the famous futuristic novella '1984' by George Orwell, symbolising the illustrious hope of freedom within a totalitarian regime. Beautiful to hear how this work starts with razor-thin, crystal-like sounds. This alone is already a sensation to listen to."

Remgewogen: (That all changes)

Featured work: That all changes (2014)
Performed by: Martin van Hees
Recorded by: TRPTK, Catalogue number TTK 0030

Press: "With an energetic and economical composition by Jan-Peter de Graaff and the wilful but humorous piece 'Remgewogen' by Christiaan Richter gives guitarist Martin van Hees the youngest batch of composers a voice. Also this deserves a compliment."

Halo: (Meccanica)

Featured work: Meccanica (2019)
Performed by: Ilonka Kolthof & Ralph van Raat
Recorded by: TRPTK, catalogue number TTK 0044

Press: "Jan-Peter de Graaff, in his intriguing jerk-piece Meccanica, inspired by Jean Tinguely and the 'strandbeesten' of Theo Jansen, grounds the duo into a contumacious playful sabotage course of melodic and mechanical-contrapuntic movements. What in the transcending opening gestures evaporates as mist soon comes down as heavy rain. This is not reconstruction, this is research. Call it land clamation. The chance has grown that a mouse will give birth to a lion."
